7 Days Lemosho Route Adventures – Mount Kilimanjaro

Overview

The Lemosho Route is considered one of the most scenic and less crowded trails up Mount Kilimanjaro. This 7-day adventure takes you through lush rainforest, the Shira Plateau, alpine deserts, and glaciers, offering excellent acclimatization and a high summit success rate. The route eventually joins the Machame trail, leading you to the summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Itinerary

Day 1: Londorosi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro

Your trek begins with a drive to the Londorosi Gate (2,100m) for registration, followed by a short transfer to the trailhead. Hike through dense rainforest alive with monkeys and birds for about 3–4 hours until you reach Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m). Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro

Leave the forest behind and ascend into the heath and moorland zone. Cross the Shira Plateau, one of the most stunning features of the mountain, with views of Kibo Peak ahead. Arrive at Shira Camp (3,840m) for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Shira to Barranco Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro

Today's trek takes you past the Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization before descending to the lush Barranco Valley (3,960m). This day follows the principle of "hike high, sleep low," helping your body adjust to altitude. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 4: Barranco to Karanga Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro

Start the day with a climb up the impressive Barranco Wall, a thrilling but non-technical scramble with breathtaking views. Continue across ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp (3,995m). Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 5: Karanga to Barafu Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro

A shorter but steep trek through the alpine desert brings you to Barafu Camp (4,673m). This is your base camp for the summit attempt. After early dinner, get some rest before your midnight climb.

Day 6: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro

At midnight, begin your push to the summit, climbing slowly to Stella Point (5,756m) and then onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa! After celebrating and taking photos, descend back to Barafu Camp for a rest, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for overnight.

Day 7: Mweka Gate – End of Tour

Descend through lush rainforest for 3–4 hours to Mweka Gate (1,640m). Receive your climbing certificate before meeting your driver for the transfer back to Moshi/Arusha. No accommodation is provided on this day.
