6 Days Umbwe Route Explore – Mount Kilimanjaro
Overview
The Umbwe Route is the steepest and most direct path up Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its challenge and adventure, this route is best suited for experienced climbers looking for a short and intense trek. Over 6 days, you'll trek from the dense rainforest to alpine desert and glaciers before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
Itinerary
Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro
After registration at the Umbwe Gate (1,600m), begin your steep climb through thick rainforest. The trail ascends quickly, with roots and rocks making it adventurous. After 5–6 hours, arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m) for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Umbwe Cave to Barranco Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro
Continue the ascent through heath and moorland, leaving the forest behind. The trail climbs steeply with panoramic views until you arrive at the scenic Barranco Valley (3,960m). Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 3: Barranco to Karanga Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro
The day begins with a thrilling climb up the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical section offering stunning views of the mountain. Trek through ridges and valleys to reach Karanga Camp (3,995m), where you'll spend the night.

Day 4: Karanga to Barafu Camp – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro
Trek across the alpine desert zone to Barafu Camp (4,673m), your base camp for the summit attempt. You'll have an early dinner and rest in preparation for your midnight climb.

Day 5: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak – Budget Camping on Mountain Kilimanjaro
At midnight, begin your push towards the summit. Climb steadily to Stella Point (5,756m) and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for overnight camping.

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – End of Tour
Descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). Collect your summit certificate and meet your driver for the transfer back to Moshi/Arusha. No accommodation provided on this day.
