Tanzania Weather & Best Time to Visit

At Wolf Spirit Safaris, we want you to experience Tanzania at its very best. Knowing the country's weather patterns helps you plan the perfect safari and enjoy every moment of your journey.

☀️ Tanzania's Climate at a Glance

Tanzania has a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round, typically ranging from 22°C to 31°C (72°F – 88°F). The country experiences two main seasons:

🌞 Dry Season (June – October)

  • Peak safari season – clear skies, low humidity, and comfortable temperatures

  • Perfect for wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources

  • Ideal for outdoor activities, photography, and exploring parks

  • These months are the most popular for visitors, so book early

🌧 Wet Season (November – May)

The wet season includes:

  • Short Rains – November to December (short, light showers, mostly early morning or evening)

  • Long Rains – March to May (heavier and more frequent rain)

Why visit in the wet season?

  • Lush, green landscapes — amazing for photography

  • Fewer tourists — enjoy a quieter safari experience

  • Excellent time for birdwatching (many migratory species are present)

🗺 Regional Weather Differences

Northern Parks (Serengeti, Tarangire, Ngorongoro)

  • Generally moderate year-round

  • Heaviest rains usually in April

  • Ngorongoro Crater Rim is at high altitude — expect chilly mornings & evenings (pack a warm layer!)

Arusha City

  • The main safari hub for northern Tanzania

  • Pleasant climate year-round, cooler than other regions

  • Beautiful views of Mount Meru and a comfortable stopover before or after your safari

Southern Parks (Nyerere/Selous, Mikumi, Ruaha, Katavi, Gombe, Mahale)

  • Generally warmer and more humid due to lower altitude

  • Ideal for travelers looking for a more remote, off-the-beaten-path safari experience

✅ Our Tip

The best time for safari is during the dry season (June – October), but the wet season can be just as magical if you love dramatic scenery and fewer crowds.
